When attempting to zone in a UCS B-series server for SAN boot, I see that the server will do a FLOGI and when it doesn't see a boot LUN it will down the link. Is there any way to keep this link up during POST, after FLOGI, so I can find the WWPN on the fabric and zone the server accordingly? I can do it as a "detached" WWPN, as the server is on the fabric for less than 30 seconds during POST, however I would prefer the links to stay up and logged into the fabric.

Hi Jonathan
Boot from SAN requires this steps
1) a service profile with vhba connected to eg. fabric A resp. B. the pwwn of the vhba's are taken out of the proper pwwn and nwwn pools.
2) assuming your UCS FI is in FC End host mode, and the uplink MDS has NPIV enabled, you should see a flogi with the pwwn of this vhba's
3) do the proper zoning (eg. single initiator - single target)
4) if the zoning is correct, you should see the lun; and can install the OS
5) after OS is properly installed, boot policy applies
Short: you know the pwwn of the vhba even without seeing the flogi !

If you drop the server into the BIOS, it will stay at the option ROM.
