VIC Adapter crash

Hi All,

I have seen lot of cases with VIC adapter crash/kernel panic and as a result all the vNIC's and vHBA's mapped through it goes to error state. But enic or fnic driver from the VMware ESXi level never report it as down and as a result host will keep on retrying to send the data through those failed HBA. Generally fnic/enic reports link as down when we reboot IOM or Fabric Interconnect (no failover enabled at OS level) but this does not happen during adapter crash.

Got some weird answer from the TAC saying fnic will not monitor the interface when multi-pathing is configured. So question is why the enic/fnic does not report link down event during an adapter crash?

Any thoughts guys? VIC Adapter crash is a common issue nowadays. Looks like engineering team have to develop a way to notify OS or driver that link went down while adapter panic or crash.
