Hi,

i am new to Cisco B series, I have 4 blade server and all are boot from SAN. i need to Install ESXi5.  In normal scnerio I use 6 physical NIC for configuration for mapping to VMware network switch the Virtual machine network.

ESX service console - virutal switch0 - Physical Network adapter 1 (Active)

                                                       - Physical Network adapter 2 (standby)

Production   - Virtual Switch1 - Physical Network adapter 3 (Active)

                                            - Physical Network adapter 4(standby)

-> we would create more port groups to all different VLANs

Backup - Virutal Switch 2 - physical network adapter 3 (active)

                                      - physical network adapter 4(standby)

HBA 1 Port 1- Primary path for storage

HBA 1 Port 2 - Secondary path for storage

how many vnic and vhba needed in cisco b series blade setup  and also should I need to create different service for Vmware ?

Help me to resolve the issue.

Nothing very specific about the SP for vmware.

You can keep the following in mind though:

1) Don't enable failover on the vNICs for the SP for vmware

2) Use the vmware adapter policy for vnic and vhba (there are default policies created)

Hi Nataraj,

UCS give you the capability to configure the number of NICs and HBAs depending upon your design and requirement and as such has no requirements on the number of vnics and vhba.

In your case if you want the host to have 6 adapters, you can configure 6 vNICs.

And looking at your requirement you can have 2 vhba.

Note: make sure you have an adapter which can support the number of vnic and vhba you want e.g. a CISCO M81KR or the new generation cards.

I am sorry i did not get your second question regarding the serivce for vmware.

Hi Abhinav,

I want to kno,Is there any special settings for vmware service profile ?

Regards,

Nat
