Well I got the new release in this morning and its been stable and fine since then. Prior it would never make it two hours following a reboot before going unreachable again. I wish I had a root cause or at least something as it ran error free for 8 weeks then it appeared as if nothing would clear it and certainly one of the oddest things I have seen in over 20 years of Cisco engineering. I'm just glad it's stopped as all appears fine now.

Customer network deployed two months ago. They had stp topology change notification in log from replacing/swapping out a layer 3 idf closet switch this morning but nothing further. From any and all idfs, cannot ping the default gateways of any vlan which mean cannot ping any SVI. I cannot see any changes made since I left other than that one switch, Nexus 5548 vpc pair is stp root with priorities hard coded due to vpc being in effect in that layer. Have vpc connecting to port-channel on vss across both switches. It appears all traffic is passing/flowing as required. I see cdp neigbors, also new switch has ip routing enabled to advertise vlans only in that closet and routing protocol adjacency is formed and routes are exchanged. I can no longer terminate any traffic into the vss node, I cannot ping the default gateway from idf to test, which is what started this. I can get to any and all devices in the network EXCEPT the 4500x core, we must use a console cable as it appears IP is not working for anything that must terminate to it, Odd and never seen anything like this in 21 years of Cisco engineering more so in vss etc. Almost makes me think vss virtual mac's are issue but again only for terminating traffic, looking for way to resolve without impacting fearing reboot inevitable. For config, too simple to post really, some SVI's for routing with 6 idf's that are port-channeled 1 in each 4500x switch, then of course links to the vPC pair of 5548's where all the servers reside. All works but mgmt it seems. On mgmt they have 10.96.0.x/24 on fa1 which they dont really use, then use same 10.96.0.x/24 mgmt subnet on their vlan 1 SVI but its NOT in mgmtVrf, it conflicting with now after running 8 weeks somehow ??? Just thinking out loud.

I am about to execute the final step in migrating NCS 1.1.1.24 device inventory onto Prime Infrastructure 1.3. One thing I cannot find an answer to is whether or not my database will be over writen or a merge ?? This is a "restore" hence the hesitation but not having this information day one our discovery for LAN devices is already done and have them all cleaned up for production. NCS however is a backup and restore to new box and I would like to know before I pull the trigger if I should warn that routers and switches will need to be added back again once the NCS wireless devices are imported ?? Please let me know, I'd like to kick this off tonight and if discovery is needed again, soon ! All steps followed, patch obtained and implimented on NCS side, backup run and sitting on Prime with NCS stopped and waiting. Dave

As stated new install using .ova template for ESXi VM environment. Executed setup script and can login vla SSH with no issues but get login error for wrong username or password when logging in via https. Never got into web page so no confguration is setup or changed from defaults yet but appears its not using local username database to authenticate. I've tried the default admin using root password created as well as adding new usernames with admin role, changed password via CLI all to no avail. Cannot login into the web side of PI 1.3 as of yet. Its not licensed yet, just plain ova customer downloaded via link when purchasing the product. I have the UDI (VUDI) via CLI in order to license it but web gui is only documented method to license the product as well so any which way I am stuck until I can login to this VM via web gui. Any one able to help ?? I see absolutely no errors, application status for NCS shows all running, no errors, using google chrome browser trying both mac and windows pc all gettign same bad login error pop up window when attempting to login. thanks in advance, Dave

Glad to see this post in the thread. I just flew over a thousand miles to help a consistent long time customer whom is "all of a sudden" having issues with performance. 3750X devices with universal images running at 40% CPU utilization and higher with NOTHING plugged in or configured. I erased config to kill it and have vlan 1 to tftp my preferred 12.2(55)SE5 "safe harbor" image and I cannot even get it on there, well I can but cannot surpass 4 packets per second !! I've never seen anything like this in 21 years of being a Cisco Engineer. No clue what triggered it but no seen enough today to push my "safe" release version to all devices being left behind after I forklift network and upgrade with Nexus 6009's and more 3750X's just orderd. Please post if you find results, I'm taking last device (the bad one mentioned above) down to 12.2(55)SE5 and buring all with universal images tonight. Dave

Had to replace production 6296 with 6248 for customer during day so backed it up and restored config. Config placed additional ports 1/33-1/48 onto 6248 and cannot get them to go away in UCS Manager. They do not have an expansion module in that slot, its empty but anyone know how I can delete those extraneous ports without disrupting the system thats working ??? Thanks in advance, Dave

Thanks Tom, as I stated I completed this process due to Tac asking others found in my search to do this. It didn't work for myself, as it didn't for those others either. Seems to be quite common. Calling support, thanks guys ! Partner have wrong info some how. dave

I have a SG300-10 as stated that is 6 weeks old ! First reboot was done last night per instructions in order to enable jumbo frames. Enabled jumbo via gui, saved config, reboot and it never came back. Google search shows this same issue with other folks so I followed TAC suggestion to reload 1.2.7.76 firmware again via console incase its corrupted. Like others in search it didn't work for me either. Firmware loads, config loads then just before login prompt it says it cannot locate counter for device *FATAL ERROR* RESET, and non stop boot process like this. System light flashes fast amber from very second switch is powered on, never changes. Place of purchase say 30 day warranty/return period ONLY, cannot open a Tac case myself, HELP ! Site is DOWN, this switch was agg for 2 others all cause I checked one box, it never recovered from reboot. Do these not have 90 days like all other Cisco products ?? I have box/paperwork dated 12/13, log from console reboots after reloading code again all night, folks come in soon and site is down hard, now switch and being refused support on both sides. Ideas ?? is it really only 30 days by partner/seller on SMB switches ?? dave

Thanks Dan, I had read that prior to even posting this actually, but just arrived home from installation and some of the testing in customer data center. I have deployed this scenario many time before, hence the posting. This time however while I did this same scenario, I removed the vPC portion from the 5k north to the core. Without vPC and just plain port channels from each 5k to each core 6509 it seems to survive all failover scenarios better and cleaner. Has anyone here had chance to lab this up and step thru failures ?? I'd like to know if STP changes topology when I lose a single 10G phy member in my port-channel ? Does the cost change on the PC when its bandwidth is cut in half ? or does he continue to report bw of all members despite one being down ? Never seen or had chance to test this and see if NX-OS recalculates the bw, adjusts accordingly while that physical is down, and sends out TCN, anyone ? dave

Thanks I was looking for that, and I will confirm this. I know the B230's for example wont go to 1333 due to CPU type, but I didn't think b200's ever had that issue but I see 2 dimm types that would allow that. All servers came with memory installed and I would hope they are consistent and match so this isn't an issue, but I will check. I have tried another bios policy since, with more options changed per Xen best practices to disable the turbo boost and c states, I've yet to see those change as well, further telling me changes aren't being done properly and not just for memory speed.
