Seems to be a network issue to me. Ports 443,7080,80 should be open bi-directionally for Unity Subscriber as well towards Office 365. Before all this, Make sure "Connection Mailbox Sync" is active and started on Unity Subscriber upon failover.

1. On Your PC: Go to User Account Control Settings (Start Menu - > UAC) and make it never notify. 2. Disable windows firewall. Check if this helps.

I don't think there is any way to automate this option proactively (using smtp address as firstname.lastname@smtpdomain) using any template or query.Automated Design is to take alias@smtpdomain as default SMTP address.
