VTP Pruning

I have VLANS configured on HP Switches uplinked to a Cat 3550-12G which will perform my inter-vlan routing. The HP switches do not support VTP. Can I use VTP pruning on the Cat-3550? And if so what VTP mode should I be in?

When you create an SVI, it does not become active until you associate it with a physical port. How do you associate an SVI with a physical port?
