Turns out, there are imported users and then there are users synced with AD. I am approaching the vendors to figure out how to clean/merge them.

We have the same issue. Some users can't even see the contacts to initiate IM. It's all hit and miss and documentation on this is pretty sparse.

Thanks for pointing this out. Our link is at 100mbps right now. So, this may be less of a cocern at the present time. But, will definitely be a limiting factor in the future
