When the error happens, what do you see on the SQL Server side? Specifically, the error logs (assuming you are doing failed login auditing). Another thing to try is to run a trace in SQL and try and capture the error. This would give you more insight...

Unless I am missing something, LDAP doesn't come into play here. The TES user is used for communication with the cache database. I'd verify that the user exists on your SQL server, that the password is correct, etc.
