I have a customer running AS5400 in their call centers and they approached me about possible IOS upgrades for their AS5400s. Details are below: In their current configuration they use a single DS-3 interface as the transport to deliver 28 ISDN PRI circuits from either Verizon or AT&T. They use the AS5400s as a gateway to convert from the ISDN Pri B-chs to H.323 trunks. The trunks connect to an Avaya Call Center PBX. Today they run 12.4 15 (T9) They will have a couple objectives that they hope to get out of an IOS and DSP FW update: •1. Better audio quality using g.729a Codec •2. * Better performance doing codec renegotiation. *Today they play the music on hold using a G711 codec and when the call is cut through to an Avaya Phone they renegotiate the codec back to G.729a. Today the AS5400 running the above IOS on current hardware cannot support a call on every b-channel and still have the CPU cycles necessary to do codec renegotiation without dropping calls and or packets resulting in very poor call quality. They’d like to be able to run every b-channel off hook and still be able to do codec renegotiation on some percentage of the active calls. My first thought is that their requests may be bumping up against hardware limitations of the platform, but I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts about an IOS upgrade to offer enhancements to the two requirements above. Any recommendations as to which code offers the features would be appreciated as well. Thanks for any help.
