Here is what I have followed to make it work . .thanks to surendra for pointing to tftpd32 software .. step 1 : Get a power adaptor for 1142N and keep it ready. Step 2 ; Download the IOS software from Cisco and the file name to c1140-k9w7-tar.default. Also down load the software tftpd32 from internet . There will be a .exe file , double click it and configure tftp location. Keep the location where you have downloaded your C1140 IOS Step 2 Connect the straight cable from ethernet slot in 1142 N to your laptop. Step 3 Configure static ip 10.0.0.5 on your laptop with default pointing to 10.0.0.1 . Dont care abt DNS config , leave it as blank. Step 4 : Make sure the tftpd32 exe is running. Now use the power adaptor to power the 1142 access point. While do this, simulataneously press and hold the Mode button which is underneath the access point. Hold until you receive red light. Then leave it. Step 5: Thats all it is . accesspoint will download the image automatically. you dont have to do any thing. Step 6 : You can monitor this using the console connection connecting to your laptop. Step 7 : After download the Acess point will reload and you will in the prompt ap> . Remember the default password is "Cisco" (Case sensitive) to get into previleged execution mode.Get into the mode and you can change the hostname as you do it in ios mode. Step 8 Now you can remove the adaptor and connect it to your network. AP will be able to get the power from ethernet. if you have DHCP the AP will get the ip and use this IP from a browser to configure through GUI. Using browser you will be asked for a username and password. I used admin/cisco and it worked.

Hi Surendra BG Thanks for the post . I did come across a situation to change 1142N-A-K9 from light weight to autonomous mode. Here the process was very simple. But I have to break my head for finding the correct method. I have pointed the image in tftpd32 as per your instructions and also connected my laptop using straight cable to AP.also assigned the ip 10.0.0.2 to my laptop. i was trying to bring the AP to blink red. using the MODE button. During this process of bringing to blinkng red. AP itself started accessing the tftp service on its own for the file name "c1140-k9w7-tar.default" Since the file name of my image was something like "c1140-k9w7-tar.124-25d.JA.tar" , the AP was not getting the file and after few min the AP goes to mode "ap: " (recovery mode) , from here you cannot convert the image. Then i figured it out using wireshark that the AP itself by default gets the ip 10.0.0.1 and access the tftp service with the file name "c1140-k9w7-tar.default" . I changed the image of the file name to this one and pointed my tftpd32 to this image. At the next attempt the AP got loaded to this image and it is now in autonomous mode. i think the commands are not necessary now as the AP have converted the image the K9w7..Thanks for the link . I thought i would share this info as this would help someone like me who is spending more time to do this.. Regards Sundar c1140-k9w7-tar.124-25d.JA.tar
