I rang Cisco Small Business Support this morning, they determined that this is very likely a faulty unit and have issued me a case number so I can return the unit to the place of purchase.

I purchased a WRVS4400N about 2 weeks ago and haven't been able to get it to maintain a stable PPPoE connection as well as it failing to stability process port forwarding amoung other things. I have a Billion 7700N running bridged ADSL2+ and Pingdom reports 20-30 times per day it cannot access the web site behind the router, however if I don't use bridge mode and perform NATing in the Billion and in the Cisco the port forwarding in the Cisco still causes reported problems with Pingdom (but fewer times a day), however Billion never drops the internet because I can see in the Billion's logs it was stable. I've also tried using the Billion's port forwarding directly to the web server which results in 0 problems even running it like that for days. I also have a Billion 7300G and a Netgear DG834G, and don't have any PPP problems with them maintaining a connection to our ISP. I know Pingdom isn't at fault because any time it reports the web site is down, I can jump on a web proxy (like hidemyass.com) and they are unable to retrieve the web site. I also seem unable to connect to a Juniper VPN using the Juniper software installed on my computer during the perioid Pingdom reports the site is down. We seem to have to manually restart the router once or twice a day when it doesn't recover from the PPP connection it is dropping. The log functionality in the WRVS4400N seems to be broken because I can only seem to get the log just when things are logged but the web GUI won't show anything older than the last few minutes. On two instances of the router loosing connectivity (every other time the log was empty) I was able to jump into the log and found an ip_conntack error the first time and the second time found allocations failed and it was killing a whole bunch of processes: Feb 24 19:43:05 - ip_conntrack: table full, dropping packet. Feb 25 02:10:00 - VM: killing process crond Feb 25 02:10:00 - __alloc_pages: 0-order allocation failed (gfp0x1d2/0) Feb 25 02:10:00 - VM: killing process sh Feb 25 02:10:15 - __alloc_pages: 0-order allocation failed (gfp0x1d2/0) Feb 25 02:10:15 - VM: killing process pluto Feb 25 02:17:44 - __alloc_pages: 0-order allocation failed (gfp0x1d2/0) Feb 25 02:17:44 - VM: killing process switch_app I installed the newest firmware (V220.127.116.11-ETSI) the other day and it didn't help. I've configured the MTU both when using a WAN type of PPPoE and DHCP to 1436, which seems to be the optimal to our ISP and google.com. I've disabled the DoS Proection and other things I've read people have problems with still to no avail. Overall I'm very disappointed in this router for the money I spent, and I haven't had a chance to even try out the VPN, QoS and IPv6 functionality because the basic functionality can't replace my previous router for stability. And all this is on top of the many things with this router that annoyed me right off the bat using it for a day. I'm stuck, I don't know how to make this thing work, I've spent way too much time on this thing. Please help.
