Why do we have Single Hop between Ipsec Peers?What is the concept behind this?Physically the data is transmitted through various routers or hop reaching the destination peerBut while tracing we can see only 1 hopWhy it so?Regards,Kesavamurthy Palani

Hi David,I m using IPSec stateful failover,configuring IPC zone for SSOAre you sure this is not seen in ASA/pix,when the interface is shut in the active box(configured sso with ipc) -will not undergo reload? Regards,Kesavamurthy Palani

So GRE is used along with Ipsec i.e GRE over IPSec.As Ipsec dont support multicast and broadcast GRE is implemented over IPSec.so the IP datagram is encapsulated First by the Carrier Protocol -GRE header then Ipsec encapsulation is done for Security....
