Great you found a solution!My guess would be, that you had a NAT issue if you should come across issues like it again.The NAT in the ASA can overrule the routing table.
The short answer is yes, but there is not support for authenticating towards the local users database or DAP as the ASA have. You will need to have an external authentication method such as LDAP or radius.
