Renaming Voice Gateways.

Hello Cisco Community,

I am changing the hostname of the Voice Gateway devices in a bulk. Can anyone here please advice me what are the types of outages that I can witness on these devices and how I can troubleshoot it, as the Voice Gateways does require a network outage while changing the hostname. Is there any document which I can refer to? I have tried looking up on the Internet, but couldn't find any relevant material regarding hostname change on Voice Gateways. Thanks!

are these MGCP gateways?  H323, SIP CUBE?

Thank you for your time Dennis,

These are H.323. Taking the backup of the configurations will be sufficient as a rollback plan, when we are just changing the host name on the actual device or is there any specific MOP or any kind of document that is available to follow a certain procedure for it?

Hi there

Unless the GWs are not MGCP, this should be an issue. Also assuming you are not using DNS. As this is an H323 you shouldn't have to worry much. If you are using hostname for resolution, make sure the voice gateway has a DNS server available for the resolution.

However, plan for the maintenance window, and do a well test on labs before doing on production.

Also as a proactive approach, please open a TAC as well in advance

Hope this helps!
