7940 phones

Is there a way to get older model phones to register with BE3000? We currently have quite a few 7940 phones and would like to re-use at least some of them so that we don't have to upgrade all of them at once. We have upgraded BE to 8.6.4 and upgraded a 7940 phone to 8.1.2. The only option in BE is for a 7942 and when we try to use that we get version error on the phone. Considering the 7942 and 7940 are so similiar is there a way to force this through?

Also, does anyone know if the a full blown version of Call Manager supports 7940s. We went with BE because we are a small business and BE was promoted as a perfect solution for us but if switching to a CallManager server and Unity server would support our legacy phones, the extra expense of purchasing it is much more cost efficient than buying $30,000 worth of new phones.

Thank you

Hi Eric

7940 phone is End of Sale. Hence it is not supported on BE3000. So there is no way to force it through by selecting 7942 phone.

7940 phone is supported on enterprise CUCM. That is an option for you to keep your existing investment in the phones.

Thanks

The 7940s also work fine with CME.

I'm unabel to get the 7942 to work the the BE3k 8.6.(4) either .

It come up with the first line number in the top right hand corner and then reboots.

Is this a new phone or a phone which was on some previous firmware, maybe SCCP load, that you are trying to register? You should try to factory reset it, so that it downloads the new firmware.

Thanks

So even though 7940s are end of life, every CM supports them, except BE. That sounds about right considering the luck I've been having with this project. Thank you for the replies.
