Connecting two SPA8000 directly?

I want to connect two  SPA8000 voip gateways. 

Is that possible to do? if it is possible how to configure these devices?

I did some research and found the best way to use these devices would be to assign an static IP address to each one and connect them to a switch.

I am trying to do the same thing but unfortunately connecting to a switch and setting static IP addresses only gets them talking on the network.  A little more information on how to set up both ends of the link would be helpful.  I have five analog phone lines connected at the office end of the network and five analog phones at the remote site to be extended.  If you have any settings suggestions that would be appreciated.
