Thanks John for your prompt reply. The issue my partners have is the cost of the 7900 phones as the only GE supported device. Customers have PC's with GE NIC and would like a phone with GE connectivity. Do you know of any plans for 6945 support? Is this likely any time soon?

To use 6945 phones with Cisco Unified CME, you either have to upgrade to CME 8.8 (which is not yet available for the UC500) or you have to add the following to the UC500 configuration using CLI:
ephone-type 6945
device-id 564
device-name Cisco IP Phone 6945
device-type 6945
num-buttons 4
max-presentation 2
phoneload
In addition, you will either need to manually upload the 6945 phone load to the UC500 in order to get it working, or use a UC500 software pack that includes the 6945 phone load (which is not yet available).
There is no CCA support for the 6945 IP phone yet. The next UC500 software pack is due to be released in January 2012. I am not sure whether or not the January 2012 software pack release for the UC500 will include an IOS image that has full support for the 6945 IP phone or the phone load for the 6945 IP phone.
