SPA122 security (deactivate ping)

Hello,

I have a spa122 directly connected to WAN (internet). My LAN is using its own router behind spa122.

Is there a way to stop SPA122 responding to ping request?

I want to be completely hidden from the internet.

Thank you very much

No, it's not possible to turn off ICMP REPLY.

But your topology seems to be wrong. SPA122 is not designed to be exposed in public space. Connect your own router to WAN, connect SPA122 behind it and configure firewall on your router accordingly.

I will do this.

However what the point of buying 122 over 112 if at the end we have to use them the same way?

I thought the router in 122 was to be used in the "front line" (directly on WAN). This way I don't have to play and rely on the QoS in my own router...

Thank you.

The SPA122 (as well as SPA112) is vulnerable to DoS attacks. Also, it take no countermeasures against brutal-force password guessing. It lacks access filters. And so on ...

It's suitable to be local branch router of larger network, guarded by central firewall/router. Also it's acceptable as a router where service disruption and/or access gained by rogue stranger doesn't harm so much.

Also it's good for those liking live on the edge ...

Just my $0.02 ...
