I've tried reloading and installing with the boot helper, but everytime I session to it I get this error:

Well, fhe Cisco code may not like the specific hardware or size of the new CF.

In one occasion I was able to replace a failed AIM-CUE disk with a generic one, but it wasn't an UC500.

See if you can 'disk erase' the original one and have it work instead.

Hi Tyler,

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the CFC you put in there is too big,

2GB is the maximum I have been able to get to work. Also Transcend and

KimgMax are the most compatible with the UC, whilst Sandisk are top of the

range, I havent gotten one to work correctly with the UC, even on the CME

side.

Try removing the CUE flash and 'zeroing' it on a PC. Hopefully that will make the disk formatting work better.

Hi Tyler,

That's a sign that either the CFC has gone bad or the CUE/DB Has become fully corrup that you can No longer Install to it again.

Two options:

1. Do as Paolo Suggest and Get windows to repair the CFC if it is repairable

2. Purchase a new Transcend or Kingmax CFC and start from scratch again

I hope this helps :-)

Cheers,

David.

If you format the card in windows, and it scans fine. The card is fine i am assuming. But during the installation I have

Unable to read /dev/hda
mkreiserfs 3.6.19 (2003 www.namesys.com)

Failed to open '/dev/hda1': No such device or address.
mount: you must specify the filesystem type

Any Suggestions?

Thanks guys for the help.  I got a new CF card and completed the first step with the boot helper.  I am at the final step and not able to do the ftp.  Any help would be much appreciate!

I should add I tested the FTP from another machine and that worked fine.

I just can't connect to the the module.  I got an error after completing the initial tftp that said:

Waiting for IOS to register IP address.

- waited 15400 seconds…

I had the service module configured just with an interface and used that as the DG and entered a different address as the address in the first TFTP.  I added the service module ip, ip unnumbered, loopback , and static route and that got rid of the error above, but I'm stuck again.

Woohoo!  Thanks Paolo!  :-)  I was trying to take off different things and preserve the rest of it, but I should have just whiped all the security stuff and tried it.  Thanks so much for your help.  I got a little farther and now I'm really perplexed on this one.  The card I took out was only 1 GB I replaced it with a Sandisk 4GB and I got this output:

Well, fhe Cisco code may not like the specific hardware or size of the new CF.

In one occasion I was able to replace a failed AIM-CUE disk with a generic one, but it wasn't an UC500.

See if you can 'disk erase' the original one and have it work instead.

Hi Tyler,

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the CFC you put in there is too big,

2GB is the maximum I have been able to get to work. Also Transcend and

KimgMax are the most compatible with the UC, whilst Sandisk are top of the

range, I havent gotten one to work correctly with the UC, even on the CME

side.

David,

It appears that we have at least one customer that might need to have the CUE flash replaced in their UC520. I am trying to find the correct replacement CompactFlash card for the CUE module on the UC520. I did a web search, and came across a Transcend 2GB 133x CompactFlash memory card. Will the Transcend 2GB 133x CompactFlash memory card work with the CUE module on the UC520?

How do I replace the CUE CompactFlash card on the UC520?

Thanks,

John Platts

Hi John,

You always ask me the hard questions LOL

Ok the 133X Card is untested by me so I cannot give you an assurance it will work as you would expect it too The Linux kernel on the CUE may not support UDMA mode or we don't have the ability to turn it on (???) and 133X Cards require it from memory, they might be backwards compatible but not sure if the CUE-OS supports this speed card (Maybe recognition of it might be a problem??).

2GB Is the right size though the latest CUE should support that as the Kernel was also updated I believe with the latest SWP, I guess my advice is try and and test it and see if it works the worst that can happen is that it doesn't work

How to replace it? Well open the UC-520 up and you will see a Compact Flash Card slotted in, I think it is on the right hand side... Or was that the 2800 series Its been like 2 years since I did my last one Anyway you take out the old one and replace it with the new one... If the old card can still be read in a computer I would suggest you try and copy over the entire contents of it to the new card this may prevent loss of data.

Once the new card is in you will need to upload the entire CUE OS to the new card via CLI, this process is a little long but should be quite painless, I don't have the PDF/Document I created on doing this with me as I am at work right now, but If I find it at home I will post it up for you

Cheers,

David.

[DISCLAIMER] In all cases genuine Cisco products should be first prefence and is the recommended solution when replacing faulty items, using a third-party product will in any event place the unit out of warranty, and so will opening the system up to do the replacement without express authority by Cisco to do so....

Sorry had to say that so I dont get a scolding for promoting DIY repairs

I have the same problem on my uc540. "Unable to read /dev/hda". I have tried formatting the card in windows using a card reader. But it just does not seem to find the /dev/ folders.

What are the steps needed to restore the system structure?
