adding DID to my UC540 system

Hello Cisco Community,

Hope it is okay to ask an end-user question here.

My office has a UC-540W-FXO router with a VIC2-4FXO card, 5 incoming analog lines, and 5 SPA-504G handsets. The system was configured by our network guy [not Cisco voice certified] and worked fine until the boss decided he wanted direct incoming dial capabilities [DID]. We set that up with the service provider [COX] and the DID works but it does not play well with the router. When a line is busy and another caller dials it, the service provider telco switch puts the caller to the next available line, thus superseding the router. This is causing havoc with users getting calls and VMs intended for others.

Could someone please offer a solution which would add DID capabilities to our system in the most efficient and cost effective way.

Thanks!

Ralph

Use PRI or SIP. (Or BRI depending on what country you are in...)

POTS lines are a poor choice for DID.

Alternatively ask the carrier to turn off line hunting -- a second caller will get a busy tone in that case.
