ASA5510 and ASA5505 as edge devices for BE3000 multi-site deployment?

I'm proposing a BE3000 solution for a local non-profit with two offices and approximately 60 users. They have an ASA5510 at the main site and and ASA5505 at the remote site. Can ASA5510 and ASA5505 be used as an edge device for a BE3000 centralized multi-site deployment, or is a ISR router required for such a deployment? If the ISR router is required as an edge device, would it require an ISR router at both sites or only at the remote site?

Hi Dwight,

The ASA is not a router. It is primarily for security applications. So it can not act as an edge device.

You need ISR for the edge device. If there is a Service Provider connection between the two sites, then you need it on both sites, otherwise only the site which has the connection from SP coming in.

Thanks

Thanks Sanjay. Are ISR routers required, or are other routers compatible with the BE3000?

It is better longer term to use an ISR which can provide PSTN connectivity and also act as CUBE, if there is a requirement down the road. With that in mind, ISR 2901 could be the recommended one.

Thanks
