Cisco UC520 CUE VoiceMail Not Booting

We came in today to a busy signal when accessing any voicemail. Calls come in and out just fine. when doing a "sh voice call summary" we get these lines. I'm guessing the S_SETUP_FAIL is related to the voicemail going down.

Well I logged in to Service module integrated-service-engine and see a continuous cycle of bootups with the following being displayed. Can someone provide some advice on what I should do in order to remedy this and fix the voicemail? Is there a block on the flash thats bad so it can't complete correctly?

You need to update IOS.

For CUE VM, you will need a new CF card, and re-install software as well.

Can I use any compact flash card for this? can I get something like this?

I guess the other big questions are: is there a guide for doing the re-install of CUE and CME after a bad compact flash card occurs?

Any good brand will work.

Read the CUE documentation for fresh installation using "installer image".

Hi Paolo,

My CUE CF card was broken, I bought new and want to install CUE software on it

But it seems that CUE CF card was format with reiserfs filesystem and have 02 partitions

CUE Bootloader does not have format tool and unable to mount the CF card with FAT16 format

Please advise how to format CUE CF Card

Tom,

Are you sure the CUE CF that came with the unit was broken? I ended up fixing mine after doing a boot helper fresh load. I had no backup so this was my only option to restore CUE. You sound like you are another step back, because the flash is brand new. I still was able to bootup IOS and the startup-config loaded. The flash didn't need to be replaced.

Did you make sure the flash you got was cisco certified. there's only certain ones that work. I never had to go down that path. I did the boot helper load and this fixed my flash io block issues you see above.

So if your old flash is gone try this to get it to a working state where the ios is bootable and your startup-config is also loading, than perform the CUE installation

The ideal method to format the flash is by using the "format flash:" command from inside the UC500 Command Line Interface (CLI). In your case, since the UC500 won't even boot, your best option is to:

1) Format it using FAT in Windows, and move the IOS image plus the default configuration to the flash.You can get the latest 7.0.3 ZIP bundle from:

IOS is a ".bin" file and default config a ".cfg" that will depend on your UC500 model. They are easily identifiable.

2) Re-insert the flash in the UC500 and reboot.

3) Once you get the system up and running with the IOS image, do a "copy flash:UC500XXXX.cfg startup-config" via the console (use HyperTeminal 9600, 8, N, 1 username/password = cisco/cisco. Enter enable mode by typing "enable" before doing the copy command)

4) Reboot the UC500 one more time.

5) perform CUE boot helper installation

Hi Jesse,

My UC520 is still running, but CUE module is not working because of CF card.

I bought the Kinston CF card 4G, and if I use to replace CF Card 128M of UC520, the UC520 is booting OK with fat16 format

But putting it in CUE CF slot, the CUE couldn't mount the file system, and as I investigated the CF Card for CUE seem to be formated with different type (reiserfs linux file system)

so CUE boot helper installation could not help, the still error mounting file system under boot, and with boot helper the CUE seems able to connect to TFTP server but could not write to CF card

I have tried the things you said but without success.

So Cisco support should have special tool to format CUE CF card, and I need help regarding it

That tool you speak of might not exist. The formatting of the device occurs during the install. so after you setup the tftp sever with the configuration files from the guide I listed above what happens after this part?

The Ethernet interface is internal. Enter cue-installer.2.0.1 for the default helper image. Ensure that the default boot is always disk, the default boot loader is always primary, and the Ethernet interface is always set to internal.

Hi Jesse,

I have tried all thing you said and look at the links given by you but the problem is not solved.

The CUE Linux boot can recognized both card (1G and 4G) but unable to mount the files sytem

For the old broken Cisco CF card 1G, the CUE can see there were 02 particle, but in could not write and read because of CF card was failured

When I tried boot helper with TFTP, the TFPT can receive the request from UC and send the data but didn't receive an acknowledge data so it failed to transfer file to CUE
