Firmware 7.5.4 isn't being applied

We've been applying firmware v.7.5.4 to a series of phones at v.7.5.2b. Everything seems to work fine for the SPA504g, SPA508g, and SPA514g. The firmware upgrade reports that it was successful. What is confusing however, is that the firmware seems to only "stick" for the 514.

After the firmware looks to be successfully applied and the 504 and 508 phones reboot, they still say they are at v.7.5.2b. We are checking the version via the HTTP page at the phone's IP address. Only the 514 seems to acknowledge they were upgraded.

Are we doing something incorrectly or misunderstanding the data? Much thanks in advance!

to see if the upgrade is successful, you can check the log messages.

to turn on logging, you will need a syslog server (tftpd32 or solarwinds have free log servers)

To enable logging on the spa go to

Voice --> system

add the IP address of your log server in the debug and syslog, set debug level =3

(not required for upgrade info)

Go into the extension  --> sip settings  --> sip debug option  to full

This will allow you to get all the sip messages between the call manager and the ATA.

(not required for upgrade info)

the log should show the firmware update trigger, and the status after.  if the phone does not show the correct firmware on the info page, the update did not complete successfully.

if you are doing this from a windows 7 machine or have a 3rd party firewall, you need to allow the upgrade EXE to accept inbound connections from the phone.  (the upgrade is actually an inbound tftp transfer request to your PC).

Cpanel-->windows firewall --> add a program --> browse to the upgrade.EXE  ( I think )

or you can try to do the upgrade through the address bar in the browser.

http://ip.of.PH.ONE/admin/upgrade?tftp://server/path/file

Path not required if the firmware image is in the tftproot folder on your server.

If the .exe fails,  try running the exe as admin (rightclick --> runas admin)

To upgrade phone to 7.5.2b before other upg in the provisioning--> upgrade rule,

($SWVER lt 7.5.2b) ? http://10.41.22.99/spa50x-30x-7-5-2b.bin | http://10.41.22.99/spa50x-30x-7-5-4.bin

Hope this helps,

Dan

You may already be doing this but... Be sure to factory reset the phone before upgrading the firmware. I have seen much better results in general when doing a reset first.

Thanks for the help on this regarding the factory reset; definitely something to check!
