No MoH on spa525g

I have a UC540 with 3 sets, a 7965G, spa525G and an old 7940.

I get internal MoH on all sets except the 525g.

I just upgraded the 525 to the lates FW using CCA drag and drop, not sure if its related as I didn't test MoH before the upgrade.

I'd appreciate any pointers.

Thanks

Chris

So the plot thickens....

If I park the spa525, I get music.

If I put it on hold I just get beeps.

All the other phones get music when placed on hold....

Now I'm really stumped.

Chris

I just tried with SPA525G running  7.4.4 (this is the FW in the 8.0.4 SW Pack) on a system configured with CCA 2.2.5.

My MOH config seen in Telephony-Service is:

UC_540#sh voice moh-group
telephony-service
internal-call moh-group (not configured)
moh flash:/media/08_no_sleep_till_brooklyn-ulaw.wav
moh-file-buffer (not configured, default size 64 Kb)
Moh multicast 239.10.16.16 port 2000 route 10.1.1.1

MoH Live feed configured from DN 9

=== no voice moh-groups configured ===

The ephone-dn configured for MOH is as follows:

ephone-dn  9
number BCD no-reg primary
description MoH
moh out-call ABC

MOH dial peer is:

dial-peer voice 5 pots
description ** MOH Port **
destination-pattern ABC
port 0/4/0
no sip-register

When the SPA525G is using POE (not wireless)

When I call from the SPA525G to another extension...

  • and I am put on HOLD I hear MOH
  • and I am PARKED I hear MOH

When the SPA525G is WiFi connected to the UC500 (no POE)

When I call from the SPA525G to another extension...

  • and I am it puts me on hold I hear ZIP TONES
  • and I am PARKED I hear MOH

I will try to understand why PARKED calls still play MOH since it seems Multicast should be disabled over wifi.

When using the 525 in Wireless mode, what part of the system determines the desired MoH operation?

1:     Is the UC500 able to determine what mode the 525 is in, and choose to send MoH based on the wireless/wired mode of operatrion?

2:     Does the 525 just ignore any MoH if it's in wireless mode?

3:     Should the internal MoH be Manually disabled if we intend to use a 525 in wireless mode (or 7921 for that matter)?

I'll do a stare and compare of the config samples you sent, should be sometime later this afternnon.

Thanks

Chris

Steve,

the following command throws an error, could this be my issue, or am I in the wrong part of the config?

UC_540#sh voice moh-group
                  ^
% Invalid input detected at '^' marker.

Thanks

Chris

You are porobaly not running CME 8.0 is my guess?

What IOS do you have?

OK, I just had it 'splained' to me and wanted to share what seems to be correct behavior, which is 7921,7925, SPA525 are considered wireless and get configured to avoid multicast.  Park is not multicast, which is why we hear the music.  Case closed?

In the case of Park, you’re actually in a simple A-to-B connected call that exists between the listener and an ephone-dn that is acting as a dedicated park-slot. The park-slot ephone-dn is then simply playing an audio feed (taken internally from the MoH source), into the connected (2 party) call path. So there’s a simple point-to-point connected audio path between park-slot ephone-dn and the listener. There’s no multicast being used.

In the other case, you’re in the call hold state, such that there is no end-to-end call path for audio to follow. In this case, the phone has to be put into a special multicast audio receive mode in order to hear the MoH multicast “broadcast”.

I think its CME 7.X, not 8.0

I just got the box ready for an Expo on Saturday, the only thing not working is the MoH for the 525.

Not sure if I want to risk trying to upgrade this and losing all my work.

How difficult is the process?

Please tell me its really easy and I have nothing to fear....

OMG thats pretty old ;-)

I wrote a technical Enablement Lab #25 showing how to build a killer demo system, but requires assorted phones.

The upgrade will take about 48 minutes, dempending on phone loads you have to apply.

Thanks,

I did build it on the Tech Enb Lab#25, and have almost everything working.

What's the latest GA build, can you get it without smartnet, and is there a good lab or upgrade doc you can recommend?

Thanks

Chris

The EULA is required to be electronically signed.

TEL #25 details the upgrade.

Great, the system is upgraded, but still no MoH for the spa525, it's alomost like the UC540 thinks the SP525 is running in WiFi mode, when it's actually running in PoE mode.

See config output below, it's just like yours...

UC_540#sh voice moh-group
telephony-service
internal-call moh-group (not configured)
moh flash:/media/music-on-hold.au
moh-file-buffer (not configured, default size 64 Kb)
Moh multicast 239.10.16.16 port 2000 route 172.16.50.30

MoH Live feed configured from DN 9

=== no voice moh-groups configured ===
UC_540#

ephone-dn 9

description MoH

moh out-call ABC

dial-peer voice 5 pots

description ** MOH Port **

destination-pattern ABC

port 0/4/0

no sip-register

My 525 works fine with MoH, running version 8, I'm trying to upgrade now to 8.0.4 and having issues, but I will post when I get it workign to see if it's still working on hold.

I had some issues with the 525G when I tried a few thing s with it. I would suggest resetting it to factory defaults then apply the latest phone load to see if this fixes it.

Cheers,

Bob James

Still no go, is there any way to completely blow out all config associated with that set?

Chris

Fixed.....

Follow these config hacks at your own risk.

I've tried some of these individualy without success, but the combination af them has fixed the problem.

Using the 525 menu, select factory reset.

When the set boots, before it tries to pull config, pull the power.

In CCA delete the associated user.

In UC540 CLI:

     delete the ephone

remove any telephony-service service phone SPA525-X lines that refer to wifi config.

     I removed:

          service phone SPA525-Encryption-key MyKey

          service phone SPA525-wifi-on no

          service phone SPA525-SSID cisco-voice

          service phone SPA525-Encryption-type WPA2_PSK

Unbuild the CNF (no create cnf)

      Build CNF (create CNF)

Save the config

Reboot the UC540

Connect the phone & let it boot.

Cross fingers

Test MWI

Reconfig the set with the correct user data

Cross fingers

Test MWI

Save Config.

I still don't know what caused the problem, I suspect the either the 525 or the UC540 thought the phone was in WiFi mode, and so MoH was never delivered.

All the help has been very much appreciated!

Thanks

Chris
