SPA 504G Power Consumption

Anyone know what the power consumption in watts is for the SPA 504G?  I am proposing a Cisco SF300-24P PoE network switch for a voice installation and I want to be sure all the ports will be available for the PoE phone connections.  The switch specs say 180 watts is available for PoE connections, but after two hours of searching, I can't find any documentation giving the phone power consumption.

Thanks for your help.

Tony

Hi Anthony,

Please find the attached chart regarding the power consumption figures of the SPA phones.

Best regards,

Zsolt Benko

Thanks for the quick reply.  I assume the figures are all in watts?  If not please let me know.

Thanks again,

Tony

Hi Tony,

Very welcome. The figures are indeed in Watts fo for example the maximum expected power consumption for the SPA504G would be 1.79 W or 1790 mW.

Best regards,

Zsolt

Hi Zsolt,

If that's the case, could you please clarify why in the "

Cisco Small Business SPA300 Series, SPA500 Series, and WIP310 IP Phone Administration Guide"page 149 it says

"that I need to set the PoE power setting to Maximum if I need to connect a Console and phone will consume upto 12 w".

I have attached the screen shot.

The reason for my post is I am having an issue with a POE powered 525 phone with a console  attendant, where the console just loses its power randomly and comes up later time with no loss in BLF configured on those lines. It is powered by a Netgear FS728TP poe switch and the switch says phone is using only 4.2 watts.

So I am really puzzled.

Robert,

With firmware version 7.4.8a the SPA Phones have the POE Power option to advertise via CDP messages the estimated POE power consumption of the phone.   Some POE switches use this CDP message to calculate the required POE for the device.

The PoE Power Required option allows the phone to advertise a higher power requirement when Attendant Console(s) are used.  The Cisco Small Business SPA300 Series, SPA500 Series, and WIP310 IP Phone Administration Guide document refers to maximum value (2 consoles all with all LED's illuminatated (red & green = orange).

snip from 7.4.8a Release Notes:

On the phone’s web-based GUI, added the PoE Power Required parameter under

the Power Settings (new section) to the System page. This parameter has two

values: Normal (default) and Maximum.

When one or more attendant consoles are attached to the phone, use Maximum to

advertise to a PoE switch that the phone will consume up to 12 W. When no

attendant consoles are attached, use Minimum to advertise a required power

budget of 6.5 Watts.

Randy

Same data(with exception of SPA501G), but embedded here (no start of PDF reader required). Values are in Watts. Taken from 7.4.6 firmware documentation.
