anyone got hold of one of these and tried to use it with a UC540, or CCA? Been told by a UK distributor it's on new product hold and they can't get any until an unspecified future date, but it's on Cisco.com as a product & a client has seen it and wants them ... be good to know whether it'll actually work if/when they become available

SAP500DS dose not support SCCP mode, if you using SAP500 phone with SCCP mode, then this sidecar not works for you.

Customer saw product on site, saw it as part of SPA500 range of phones plus accessories and won't care about SCCP vs any "technical details": either it's part of the range, and works as an IP phone accessory, or not. If not it kind of needs to have a health warning on it so customers don't -ever- see it.

Then again, given the amount of other stuff that actually works but isn't supported, is there a workaround?

when the SPA phone in SCCP mode the 500DS is not bootup at all.

Actually this is incorrect, in SCCP mode, the sidecar boots and BLF works, however it does not display any names/extensions onscreen due to the limitation in CME, which only supports the 500S.
