Hi All,

Anyone know how I can get this phone back to usable without having to send it in for RMA? I'm aware that it probably got interrupted while upgrading its firmware or something.

Thanks,

Tom

Hello Milkboy33, there is a SOS recovery tool for all the firmware downloads available for the phones. On the latest releases the recovery tool is packaged with the SPC tool.

Here is the link for the 7.5.2b compiler zip file, it is labeled as the recovery.exe

http://www.cisco.com/cisco/software/release.html?mdfid=282724651&softwareid=282562500&release=7.5.2b&relind=AVAILABLE&rellifecycle=&reltype=latest

Additionally, you can also go to the 7.4.9 releases and the recovery tool is packaged with the firmware downloads.

I'll try out your suggestion Tom, but got a question about running the tool in the same subnet. Do I run it in the same subnet as the phones? Meaning if our data is running on 192.168.10.0/24 and the phones on 10.1.1.0/24, do I need to configure my laptop to an ip in the 10.1.1.0/24 subnet, -then- run the tool?

Thanks,

Tom

I would recommend to remove the phone and computer from the network.

So...

How am I to reset the firmware? I don't get it. If the phone's not plugged in.

Grab an unmanage switch or hub then connect both unit there.

I see I see. Sorry for the next stupid question. Do I need to set my computer/laptop to the IP of the phone's subnet?

If the phone is in SOS I don't think it is aware of anything. You should just able to enter the serial number of the unit. I only recommend to isolate from the network for any possible error, be it human or networking (freaky thngs happen).  You may run it while on the active LAN if you want, but I preference to err on the side if caution.

When you run the tool and choose the recovery option, it should say the IP of your computer and ask for the s/n of the phone. Once you enter the s/n of the phone it should try to find it. I don't think the IP of your computer matters as long as it is able to communicate to the phone.

Ah I'm getting it now. It doesn't communicate on the IP layer and is stuck on the MAC layer, so we need the SN to ID it. I see I see. Ok I think I got it. I'll try it out and let you know1
