UC560, Remote Teleworkers and Jabber

Hello, in the next weeks here in our company we need to implement a remote location (teleworkers via vpn) and i've read TEL

https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-15031

I want to use an SR520 on the remote location with phones behind it (on TEL it indicates that 5 phones are supported, but i read on other discussion that more are possible to use but taking care of cpu and memory utilization).

The situation is that my boss read that Iphones can be used with Cisco Jabber to use them as extensions and i'm supposed to implement them in the remote location.

Can someone point me in the right direction with this?

I understand that i have to put an ASA in the remote location to make this work. (Not sure if only on the remote location or also in main office the ASA is required).

Attached is a diagram, ignore the phone quantity as it will be less than that...

Hi,

Jabber for the iPhone is not supported over a VPN; it is only supported on locally on the UC. Please find below a link to the limitations and configuration information for the Jabber client.

Good morning

Thanks for using our forum

Hi Saul, my name is Johnnatan and I am part of the Small business Support community. You´d better configure your Jabber client using a UC, that´s because the iPhone doesn´t support Jabber over a VPN.

I hope you find this answer useful,

Cisco has a very useful tool called GuideMe, is made for small business products, and your device is in this category, you can use this address for accessing the tool:  http://sbkb.cisco.com/CiscoSB/Loginr.aspx?alt1=&pid=4&eroute=Super , is very easy to use, just complete the 3  spaces on this way:

Select a category: (Select the device type on request), e.g. Routers

Enter model: (Type the model on request), e.g. RV042

Question: (Type what  you want to know  about the device), e.g. VPN

And it'll be showing all the information you need about what you wrote.

If you are terminating the SSL VPN on the ASA then it should work fine, but of course CCA will not support this, but I'm guessing you know this since you're using ASAs.

If you have site to site VPN also this should work. I've had much better joy with iPhone app "groundwire" as a SIP client than Jabber, it has way more options and much better battery life if configured correctly. I use it a lot from home via site to site VPN. I doubt if an iPhone client is really truly ready for non-tech savvy users though... Ok for us geeks though. I would hesitate to roll it out without desk phones to use when their iPhone batteries die.
