UC560 upgrade questions

Brian Rapier

With the release of 8.6.2 I am looking to upgrade our 560.  I have some questions though.

Back in Dec 2012 we got bit by the VM bug that wiped our entire VM/AA setup.  During the resolution iwith TAC we upgraded the CUE to 8.6.1 but we did not touch the other side of the UC.  So for the last 8 months I have been running with 2 different versions installed.  I have been very leary of touching anything as its running.

Can I upgrade this straight to 8.6.2 or should I first upgrade the other half of my UC to 8.6.1 first, then move to 8.6.2?

Thanks.

Hi Brian,

Here  is a check list we recommend going by and you should not have any problems.

Use CCA version 3.2.3

Download UC560 Software pack 8.6.2 https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-9829

Make sure you can do a backup through CCA Maintenance>Configuration Archive

Supported operating systems (MS Windows XP, windows7...)

MS Server is NOT a supported OS

Windows7: Always run CCA as 'Administrator'

Connected PC as close to UC500 as possible or better yet directly to the UC.

Disable all connections except for LAN port connected to UC500

  Disable wireless ports

  Disable all anti-virus software

  Disable 'Microsoft Security Essentials' software

  Disable Firewall

(On some adapters) Local NIC adapter properties>Configure > Advanced > Disable IPv4 Checksum Offload => "Disabled"

If you are using a different default gateway other than the UC, make sure you have routes to the 10.1.10.0 network.

Regards,

Chris

Thanks.

I will be plugged directly into the UC when doing the upgrade.  I was just concerned that having 2 different versions running I would run into issues.

When our VM system crashed there in Dec, we ran into an issue that none of the previous backups would work as they were a different version 8.6 vs 8.6.1.  Is that still the case with this?  Will my backup copies work if things go south? or will I need to "downgrade" to 8.6.1 and try again?

Yes your backups will be fine. Even if you have a backup from 8.0, you can still restore it to 8.6.2. The upgrade wizard takes a backup and then restores it. CUE is a seperate platform than the CME side. You can run CUE 8.6.5 even with an older CME IOS. The upgrade will bring you to the latest CME software pack and you will not have any issues with the upgrade.

Thats what I like to hear.

Thanks.

Sure it will work no problem.....unless of course you have a problem.

Upgrade went fine, until everything came back up and I have no AA or voicemail.

All I get when I call the AA is a busy signal.

Any ideas where to start?

Check if CUE is running in first place. CUE GUI or CLI.

Yes the CUE is running, I can reach it via CLI and GUI.

I log in and everything says it is working, yet I cannot reach it.

Yet I can log into it via the voiceview express on the phones.

The in CUE check if AA pilot number is correct.

In CME check said number corresponding dial-peer correct.

Next, "debug ccsip message" with "term mon".

I have no idea if and how one does that with CCA.

They are all there

7000 vm pilot

7100 - 7104 vm pilots

Sorry, they can be any number and to a reader other side of a browser it wouldn't make a difference.

I understand.  I was just pointing out that all the pilots are still in the config.

On the phone with TAC.

Will update once we get it sorted out.

We seem to have things running again.

TAC noted a bunch of errors during the CUE upgrade, made some changes to the Voice Card setup, some transcoding changes, and some items under dspfarm.

I did not get all the changes that happened.

Case is staying opened for another 24 hours in case things go south again.

Thanks for the help.
