Weird Problem on UC540 regarding Max-Ephones

Hi,

I have a UC540 Test Setup. It has 5 IP Phones attached to it.

Max-Ephones is configured as 6.

But now, I am getting Registeration Reject Message.

Sample Debug Output:

%IPPHONE-6-REG_ALARM: 24: Name=SEP1C17D3371B7D Load= term11.default Last=Phone-Reg-RejSEP1C17D3371B7D: Registration failed. Max phone count reached

Now when I change the Max-Ephones to 40

(max available) and do a "write&reload"(necessary) phones get registered without a problem.

I have attached the running config (relevant sections) to this post.

Please note:

I had defined ephones 1,2,3,4,5

and ephone-dns: 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12

max-ephones: 6 when error comes, 40 when no error

max ephone-dns : 12

ios image: uc500-advipservicesk9-mz.151-2.T4

software pack: UC540-8.2.0

UC500 Model: Cisco UC540W-FXO-K9

Please can someone help me with this. It has really screwed my basics. ;-)

Any explanation for this behaviour will be very welcome. I just hope its not an IOS bug.

Hi Shaurya,

In theory you shouldn't be playing around with this, if you used CCA to configure this systems then this configuration would be attached to the licensing that is associated to the system, manually adjusting this setting can cause unwanted issue and also have indirect consequences... I am not sure what you are trying to achieve by adjusting this, can you maybe elaborate further as to what you are trying to achieve??

Also note that with the current software pack, the system will default to 24 users license if I am not mistaken (Cant remember what this has changed too) and that is what licensing information would be configured on the system.

Going over the defaulted amount without any L-UC-PRO-8U licenses and the associated files stored on the flash card will cause you many of grief, especially when lodging support request as you system will be well and truly out of scope and you have manually put your box in an unlicensed state.

I would highly recommend you change this back to default and then lets work on that which you are trying to achieve.

Just FYI though, this UC setup is just for internal testing. And in our case we are not using CCA.

That's why gotta play around doing manual configs similar to CME ones.

Great idea though, i will check around the licenses just to check if they are the culprits.

As far as I know, if you got 'n' phones. The "max-ephone >= n". Its got something to do with router resources I think.

And I have not actually tested with 40 phones to this UC500, but just changed max-ephone from 6 to 40, and it worked for the 5 phones.

I have attached a txt file showing UC540 console output.

Here I start with max-ephone 40(everything is fine).

Then go down to 10, 8, 6...(unregisteration starts)

I've done "show telephony-service licenses" along the way.

It definitely seems to be a license related issue.

Below is after i configure max-ephone to 7.
