Anyconnect 4.0 Licensing

Hi Experts,

The Anyconnect 4.0 licensing guide seems kind of confusing.

If you have a customer with 1000 users and an ASA that supports  1000 simultaneous connections, but you only have a license for 250 users, does that mean that you cannot install AnyConnect on all 1000 machines (as was previously supported) and that 250 machines must be selected to utilize the VPN?

In the past, you could install Anyconnect on all 1000 machines and were limited by the number of concurrent connections on the ASA. The question also applies to SSL, is SSL licensing limited based on a user-approach or is it based on the number of concurrent connections to the ASA?

The concurrent connections don't play any role any more with AC4. You need one license per User that uses the VPN. So if you have 10000 Users, but only 5 of them use the VPN at the same time, you need 10000 licenses.

Luckily, the licenses are quite inexpensive compared to the older Premium-price. And you can use your licenses with as many Gateways as you want. That could also safe some money compares to the previous licensing-model.
