Dear All,

Please, we need your assistance, we have Cisco ASA 5516-X with FirePower. The device came with 4 AnyConnect Premium Peers perpetual license but there is no AnyConnect Application pre-deployed on the device. We contacted our supplier for the AnyConnect application to utilize the 4 available licenses, however, our supplier said we must purchase additional license to use the currently available premium licenses. Can someone please help us with this.

Regards

Timothy

Your reseller is correct. The AnyConnect Premium (now known as Apex) client software requires a purchased license. The ASA can act as a server but you must purchase client licenses.

The software download site confirms:

"AnyConnect 4.7 is available to customers with active AnyConnect Apex, Plus or VPN Only term/contracts. See the AnyConnect Ordering Guide for options."

Cisco used to provide an AnyConnect image on the factory build of ASA appliances. It was out of date but would work for purposes of demonstrating the feature. Did you verify that your ASA does not include it? ("dir" from the cli)

They have always used that as a "teaser" to entice you to buy the actual license (25 users minimum as you noted).

You probably don't need the Premium (now known as Apex) license. They entry level Plus licenses (formerly known as AnyConnect Essentials) are only US$6/per user for a 1 year subscription so the list price would be US$150 - net price probably closer to $100.

The Apex license list price is US$14.40 per user for one year term so US$360 list price for 25 users

Hello Marvin @Marvin Rhoads

Thank you for the quick response, one more quick clarification please what is the 4 AnyConnect Premium license meant to do?.

Regards

Timothy

It allows remote access users to connect using SSL VPN.

Or do you mean what's the difference between Apex (old Premium) vs. Plus (old Essentials)?

The data sheets and ordering guide explain the latter.

Hello Marvin @Marvin Rhoads

Thank you for the response once again!

I want to know why we can't use the 4 AnyConnect Premium Peers perpetual license currently available on the ASA. Furthermore, we only currently two users who required remote access so, buy 25 licenses will not make sense to my management.

Hello Marvin, @Marvin Rhoads

Thank you for your kind support.

I verified using show Flash command there is no AnyConnect client application on ASA. I will purchase 1-year subscription license as I do not have a budget for perpetual license now.
