Clientless SSL VPN using Smart Tunnel

Hi,

can anybody tell  me how it work? I read the configuration that Smart Tunnel are for

Clientless VPN but I did not found some picture where I can see how it work.

Do it work like this:

- Browser ( open the Clientless VPN)

after the connection stay I start maybe Outlook (outlook.exe) to connect to the

exchange Server into the Company. And over the configured smart tunnel I have

access to the Server inside the Company?

PC 01(Browser SSL VPN) < = ASA with VPN and Smart tunnel for outlook.exe) = > Inside Exchange-Server

PC 01 connected - open Outlook (Outlook.exe) <= Use the Smart tunnel => Inside Network with the Exchange Server

Is that the way a smart tunnel works?

I hope someone can help me.

Clientless SSL VPN using Smart Tunnel

Hello Hans-Juergen,

yes it works more or less like you describe. The user points his browser to the ASA, logs in (with username and password, or with a certificate/smartcard, or both), then he clicks the button "start smart tunnel" (or smart tunnel starts automatically, depending on how you configure it).

Either way, a little program then starts on the local computer that intercepts IP traffic from Outlook (or any application you define on the ASA) and sends it over the SSL connection to the ASA which then forwards it to the server (and vice versa), so the ASA acts as a kind of proxy.

Does this answer your question?

BTW - did you consider using the Anyconnect VPN client instead?

regards

Herbert
