Traffic not routed to VPN

We successfully created an ikev1 tunnel from ASA to a PIX. Moreover the ASA is not routing the traffic through the VPN 

The ASA (9.5(1)) config is straightforward. It is connected to the internet using a public IP and using PAT with a single gateway static route This works perfectly.

Then we added the usual crypto parameters (using wizard and manually checked several times)

The tunnel is up on both sides (AM_ACTIVE on ASA and QM_IDLE on PIX) 

The problem is that the traffic is never routed from ASA internal network  to VPN tunnel (Bytes TX = 0) we can see some incoming traffic (ping or other connect) (Bytes RX>0) but remote PIX network can't reach ASA internal network

Our checks

  • Ikev1 enabled for external ASA interface
  • NAT disabled (unnatted) for access list (xlate ok)
  • access list correct (ping remote network creates the tunnel)
  • sysopt VPN enabled 
  • dynamic routing table correct
  • ...
