Basic Site to Site connectivity

Hi All,

I need to connect 2 remote sites together over the Interent. The end points will be cisco routers at either end with an Interface connected to the Internet  (no ASA's etc.. )

This is not something I have done in the past. I have been reading up on GRE tunnels with IPSEC. What are the pros/cons of using this? Are there alternatives? I'm guessing all I need is a public IP (preferably static) at each end, and some config on the router? Is this difficult to setup and any "gotchas" I need to be aware off?

Thanks, appreciate any pointers.

Grant,

Why not just configure a LAN to LAN IPSec VPN tunnel between the two sites?

With the gre+ipsec, you can have routing protocol running between two sites and support for multicast. You can't get this with the traditional site to site vpn, the alternative would be using the site to site gre+ipsec. But if you don't have the need to have routing protocols etc. then the traditional would be better as it is easier to configure and less complicated then the gre+ipsec.
