Hi All

We have catalyst 4500-x switch and I was planning to use this switch as edge router it supports Vrf, BGP and other routing protocol what I need to know is what is the pros and cons of using this switch as an edge Router which connects as to our branch office and IPsec to our trusted customers. Mostly we use ISR routers and it is a kind of odd for me to use this switch as an edge router ?

You can replace 100% features of the router with Switch for sure.

You can refer to below VPN related information :

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/lan/catalyst4500/XE3-7-0E/15-23E/configuration/guide/xe-370-configuration/intro.html#25222

if you looking for features like NAT and other stuff?

More or less you can - just don't try to do something like take a full routing table for the Internet. The built-in supervisor on a 4500-X doesn't have enough memory and CPU to handle that and the device will crash.

Hi Marvin

Do you know if a 4500x will support IKE/IPSEC VPN ?
