Cisco 804 Booting from ROMMON (boot#)-Not Desired

Without configuring my 804 to do so, it has begun booting in ROMMON mode. I have the boot# CLI and I have to paste the flash file name. My console message began showing this message: Note: IOS boot is disabled, router will boot to TinyROM

upon reboot (not recommend for remotely administered routers).

What are the commands/configuration to return the 804 to boot from IOS image and not ROMMON mode?

Hi,

It could be that the "config-register" configuration has changed, due to either a bug or IOS upgrade.

Issue "show version" to see the current config-register setting. Change it to 0x2102:

router(config)#config-register 0x2102

router#copy run start

or if you are at the rommon prompt:

set ios-conf=0x2102

Then try rebooting again to see if it works.

Perfect, Mustafa. I didn't have a copy of sh version saved, and had seen 0x2102 tied to something else on some other text logs I had saved. But I wasn't sure that was the right config register for the 804. By the way, the config register had changed to (or at least was reading) 0x0. Thanks again.

Hello you should set ios-conf to 0x2102 that is the default value.

Command should look something like set ios-conf = 0x2102.
