I purchased a cisco 5505 from ebay and when it trys to boot it keeps going in a continuous cycle loop. It looks like it is doing some kind of crash dump file log and then trys to boot again. It is IOS ver 8 and I can get to the rommon> prompt but I have no clue what to do to try to get this thing to work. I know that there are things that you can do from that prompt and would like to know if anyone has any info that could help me fix this thing so I can use it in my cisco lab tor certification training? I appreciate any help I can get with this as I am a newbie when it comes to the cisco security stuff.
Thanks,
Jamie

Hi Jamie,
The procedure to install a new software image from the rommon prompt is described under the following link:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/asa/asa80/configuration/guide/trouble.html#wp1064632
If you still have the issue after the new image install, please send the crash output that you get on your console and I'll check if this is a hardware or software issue.

Nicolas

Nicolas,
I do not have the IOS for the asa5505. What do I do in that case? I do not have
a service contract with cisco as I bought this device on ebay. Do you know of
some way that I can get my hands on the IOS for the asa device? Let me know and
thank you for your reply and taking the time to help with this.
Regards,
Jamie

Hi Jamie,
Unfortunately, it is the only place I know where you should be able to get the software.

Nicolas,
When I look at the flash of this asa device I see the IOS residing there.
Shouldn't I be able to get this machine to use this somehow? Is there a way for
me to copy the flash to my tftp server on my laptop and then try to reload it
back to the asa device and see if that works? Is there a way to make the asa
machine load the IOS from flash at the rommon prompt? Let me know as this is
just a thought that crossed my mind. Thank you for your time on this whether
this will work or not.
regards,
Jamie

Hi Jamie,
It can be done on your ASA by using the following command:
rommon #0> boot
