Cisco VPN client x64 for win7 - will not install

Hello guys,

I have fresh windows 7 x64 installation and I try install Cisco VPN client (vpnclient-winx64-msi-5.0.07.0290-k9.exe). Installation ends with fatal error "Installation ended prematurely of an error". I red lot of 'step-by-step' how to solve this problem (run as administrator, even though that I'm administrator; UAC disabled; run in WinXP-mode; etc), without success.

I tried run installation process from cmd with verbose logging "msiexec /i vpnclient_setup.msi /lv log.txt" (and other 'recomended' optional parameters). The same result - fatal error.

Can anybody tell me where is the problem? (installation file is not corupted)

We solved it tonight! We had this problem forever and the ifcleanup script didn't work.

We heard rumor it was related to McAfee HIPS, so we forcefully removed it with HIPS ripper, Reboot, then another round of ifcleanup.x64

Still no interfaces clean

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Network

so i exported the registry key above, and there were a thousand interfaces under the reg key

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Network\{4D36E972-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} we deleted that key and all subkeys, then ran the ifcleanup again and it went wild!Then the install completed successfully

Try the  vpnclient-winx64-msi-5.0.07.0440-k9.exe version instead. See my entry in the thread below confirming that this version works on Win7-64 with Dan Costa's steps in the thread below.
