devices to setup a site-to-site vpn

I have a dumb question.  In a site-to-site vpn environment, can I accomplish the setup using one asa5505 on one end and one 1811 router on the other end or do I need to have two asa5505 or two 1811 routers? Another word, can I mix and match the devices and still accomplish a site-to-site vpn setup or do I have to have the same devices on both end?
