VPN Routing Problem

dfvelasco
Level 1
Level 1

Hello,

We need to connect from an external computer connected by cisco-vpn-client to one internal server that is behind an ASA 5505 config with Easy VPN. The VPN connection with the client to our 5520 firewall is fine, but when I try to connect to the server on the LAN, FW log says:

Routing failed to locate next hop for TCP from Internet:172.17.1.215/1108 to Lan_Interna:172.33.0.50/3389

Attached image.

Can you help me?

Regards

David

There is a number of incorrect NAT statements which should be removed:

nat (Lan_Interna,DMZ) source static INTRANET_LISBOA INTRANET_LISBOA no-proxy-arp

nat (Lan_Interna,any) source static INTRANET_LISBOA INTRANET_LISBOA destination static DMZ DMZ no-proxy-arp

nat (Lan_Interna,any) source static INTRANET_LISBOA INTRANET_LISBOA destination static VPN_REMOTE_ACCESS VPN_REMOTE_ACCESS no-proxy-arp

On the VPN Client route section, do you see the 2 routes, or there is just 1 route of 0.0.0.0?

Also, have you reconnected the ASA5505? if you have, how come there is no IPSec SA? there should be an IPSec SA for that peer, otherwise, it won't work. Can you access the main site from the ASA5505?

Do you have a route for the 172.33.0.50 ip address?

can you share your config pls.

Hello Jennifer,

Thank you for your answer!! No, I don't have static route for 172.33.0.0/16 LAN

Is posibble that we loss the connection with this LAN if I config static route?? Remeber that this office is connected throught Easy VPN Client

Regards

David

Ahh, is it Easy VPN in NEM (Network Extension Mode)?

Should 172.33.0.0/16 be routed towards the Internet instead? is 172.33.0.0 the easy VPN local subnet?

It would be easier if you share your current config.

Not quite sure if vpn client to easy vpn client connection will work. But pls share your config to see.

Correct! It's Easy VPN in NEM.

172.33.0.0 it's the local subnet. My ASA 5505 config:

I need to connect from outside to 172.33.0.0/16

Thanks!

Sorry, I need to connect from external computer with cisco-vpn-client to our main office FW (195.77.x.x) and then acces to 172.33.0.0/16

The connection from computer to FW it's OK, but then the problem with 172.33.0.0/16

Thanks again. Tell me if you need the config from ASA 5520 (195.77.x.x)

need the 5520 config as there is where the vpn client config and vpn server config is

Hello Jennifer,

I configure a static route to 172.33.0.0/16 on ASA 5520 and loose the connection to servers in Easy VPN office. Route deleted.

Attached 5520 config.

Easy VPN Office Profile: REMOTE_LISBOA (it's connected and working)

Cisco-vpn-client (remote computer) vpn profile: REMOTE_ITLISBOA

Regards
David

Split tunnel needs to be standard ACL instead of extended ACL.

Also, REMOTE_LISBOA_splitTunnelAcl ACL is incorrect, you have destination network at the IP POOL subnet, it should have been 172.33.0.0 subnet. In any case, you can just configure standard ACL instead of extended ACL.

The standard ACL should be as follows:

access-list REMOTE_LISBOA_splitTunnelAcl standard permit object INTRANET_MAD

access-list REMOTE_LISBOA_splitTunnelAcl standard permit object INTRANET_BCN

access-list REMOTE_LISBOA_splitTunnelAcl standard permit object VLAN_MAD

access-list REMOTE_LISBOA_splitTunnelAcl standard permit object DMZ

access-list REMOTE_LISBOA_splitTunnelAcl standard permit object INTRANET_DIAGONAL

access-list REMOTE_LISBOA_splitTunnelAcl standard permit object VPN_REMOTE_ACCESS

BTW, you have a very long config

Ok, I will change the config and I tell you something tomorrow.

I suppose that I must disconnect Easy vpn client and connect again to apply the changes. Right??

I know, It's difficult to manage the config

Thanks again.

Yes, correct, you have to disconnect after you make the changes and reconnect again.

Hello Jennifer,

Bad news, same problem. Do I need to make any change on client profile (REMOTE_ITLISBOA)??

I made the standard ACL for REMOTE_LISBOA_splitTunnelAcl, disconnect the ASA 5505 and recconect again.

Regards

David

Also change the ACL to standard for the REMOTE_ITLISBOA:

access-list REMOTE_ITLISBOA_splitTunnelAcl standard permit object INTRANET_LISBOA

access-list REMOTE_ITLISBOA_splitTunnelAcl standard permit object INTRANET_BCN

Can you please advise where it is failing?

Please share the output of:

show cry ipsec sa peer

show cry ipsec sa peer <(REMOTE_ITLISBOA-ip-address>

Yes, pls change it to standard ACL as well.

Can you please advise where it is failing?

Pls share the output of :

show cry ipsec sa peer ITLISBOA-ipaddress>

show cry ipsec sa peer

Where should I run the command? ASA5520 or ASA5505
