Webex Employee's Favorite Feature: Virtual and blurred backgrounds

Cisco Employee

My team and I are constantly changing our backgrounds to suit our needs. Whether I'm at a coffee shop and want to use a more professional office scene, my team wants to celebrate with baby backgrounds at a virtual baby shower, or I want to blur my background so my team can't see my roommates, virtual and blurred backgrounds are the way to go.

How do you and your team use virtual and blurred backgrounds during meetings?

We want to know what you love about virtual and blurred backgrounds and any tips you have for fellow users. In less than 100 words, comment below on how virtual or blurred backgrounds help you engage in meetings without worrying about a mess or privacy.

Once we get your response, we'll enter you into our giveaway for a chance to win a Cisco 730 headset. We'll keep this post active through the entire month of July and randomly select a giveaway winner the first week of August. Congratulations to Beverly Rodgers ( @rogersb ), June's winner!

More about virtual and blurred backgrounds

Reduce background distractions and maintain your personality by choosing from a set of built-in virtual backgrounds, your own image, or by simply blurring your background. Once you decide how you want your background to look, Webex will remember your selection for your next call or meeting.

This is a great articule to understand the background themes and ways to adapt your video call background accordantly to the location.

The blurred background and background image works surprisingly well.  I am not a fan of the view where everyone is in theater seating.

Agreed with you looks funny

I added a Star Wars image that makes me look like I'm actually working on a one of the screens when I'm on meetings.  Everyone seems to love it and I get great comments on it.  Makes using Webex very fun!

 Hi @aahawkin ,

Thanks for posting that here in the community. The conversations of virtual backgrounds is always a blast. Many people on my team like to use the virtual backgrounds if they have kids running around the house. As you can see in the picture I added, I've used it to enter the world of Willy Wonka for our team's Halloween party! You can have SO MUCH FUN with these, and I love seeing how creative some members can get with them. It's always an opportunity to share more about your personality. Excited to see how others are using it!

Your video background makes a strong statement about you. I personally leverage the blurred background so that anything behind me is "hidden" which helps me to literally project a more professional image. And knowing that most of us are now victims of back to-back meetings, bring a spark a personality to help lighten/refresh the mood!

Is very helpful for avoid the distraction in a meeting or for hide the mess in the background.

My Teacher to me: "What is this behaviour POPPOY"

It is great opportunity to hide unnecessary details in background and focus only on speaker

Virtual and blurred backgrounds is a life saver , especially you when you are too lazy to clean up your room and it is messy, the Virtual and blurred backgrounds option hides it not only that if someone accidently walks in behind you it covers that too.

Blurred/virtual backgrounds are one of my favorite features when its comes to a meeting. It is a huge lifesaver when you are working from home. You can still have the privacy of not showing everyone your house, as well as seeming more professional showing a nice clean virtual office as opposed to the couch you may be forced to take the meeting on. It's a great feature and a necessary one in todays work climate.

This article is very helpful to understand the capabilities and how you can use different backgrounds to adapt to your environment. I will definitely be trying different backgrounds out.

Like everybody, I work from home and I have various clothes hanging in the background.

Blurred background helps me hide them and make my jabber calls look "professional"-ish.

This is a great feature of Webex Meetings since we could hide the messy house using blurred option for background. Also its an excellent tool because we have created custom background for the company employees and we all using the same background to be more structured in our meetings.
