2504 WLC IOS upgrade

Hello Team,

We are planning to upgrade controller code as per below.

7.6.120.0  to 8.5.151.0.

7.0.220.0 to  8.3.150.0

8.2.121.0 to 8.5.151.0.

WLC model - 2504

I checked release note of 8.5.151.0. But there is no suggestion how to upgrade from 7.6.120.0 to 8.5.151.0.

Could you please advise how to proceed for these code up-gradation.

Thanks

Kanhu

You can also step upgrade 8.0 / 8.3 / 8.5

or You can upgrade to 8.5 straight, make sure also consider suggested to consider doing a FUS upgrade first, that's like a BIOS update and fixes a few very specific issues for code > 8.0.

Also, check the AP compatibility in release notes before upgrading.

Thanks Balaji for reply.

could you provide complete upgrade path

from 7.0.220.0 -to - 8.3.150.0

and from 7.6.120.0 - to  - 8.5.151.0

Thanks

Kanhu

You can't upgrade from 7.6 to 8.5.
The controller needs to be upgraded to 8.2.26X.X first and then upgrade to 8.5.X.X is supported.

I do not believe there is a procedure document available for you to refer.

instead, you can refer the release notes upgrade path and upgrade each level. (Note: always do the backup and do the upgrade in a maintenance window, if it in HA, check the HA requirements.)

here is shared one :

Cisco Recommended Image for 2504

Release Notes of 8.0

Release Notes of 8.3

Release Notes of 8.5

Consider below points before upgrading 2504 WLC

  • Step Upgrade: Since you are in 7.0 version you can't directly go to 8.0 or later. Intermediate upgrades will be required. (Go through the release notes for the same)
  • Field upgrade Software: It should be FUS 1.9 or later release.
  • AP Upgrade bundle: If you have AP802,AP803,AP1530, AP1550 , AP1570 and AP1600 model access points you have to upgrade additional upgrade bundle for supporting the mentioned above images.
