The company I work for just purchased one of these APs and I am having a hard time configuring it. I hae done several searches and I can't find what i'm looking for. It seems that after a factory reset by holding down mode during power on, that I can't get into global config mode. The command config t is not a known command. I am able to get into priv exc mode. Does anyone have any ideas on this?

Yes, the IOS version being loaded and the CAPWAP messages confirm that this AP is in lightweight mode.
You need the Autonomous IOS firmware such as c1240-k9w7-tar.124-21a.JY.tar.
Here is link to a document that explains the IOS images.

I have recently attempted to install a new IOS on the AP assuming that it was in lightweight AP, off of a LAN controller. I was successful at getting the IOS to flash, however I am unable to boot from it at this time. Am I on the right track of it being a lightweight AP at the moment?
10-04-2012 11:04 AM
Yes, the IOS version being loaded and the CAPWAP messages confirm that this AP is in lightweight mode.
You need the Autonomous IOS firmware such as c1240-k9w7-tar.124-21a.JY.tar.

I am glad to see I am on the right track. There is a slight problem though. I have not been able to flash the firmware. I have done the following steps:
Loaded a TFTP program on a computer the AP is connected with
Set the Computer's IP address to 10.0.0.2/24
Renamed the IOS file to c1240-k9w7-tar.default
Unplugged the AP and held the mode button upon reboot
Watched as the AP would not download the file but connected to the computer to trigger the TFTP software
What do you see that I am doing wrong so far? I am shortly going to try to do this off of a different computer with XP on it.

Jordan,
The mode button needs to be held down for 20 to 30 seconds until the status LED light is red.
A message will also be in the AP log indicating that the mode button is being held down.

Bill,
I think there was a firewall problem in uploading the IOS from the TFTP server. I was able to successfully get the image on the AP. I thank you for all your help.
