AP1852E Cisco Mobility Express Controller Issues

bluecorvette86

Level 1

I have an AP1852E that I have started setting up.  It is connected to a local trunk port on my switch, with the management VLAN configured as the native VLAN.  When it first started up, the Cisco Mobility Express Provisioning ran just fine, I entered all of the revelvant information, and completed the setup.  Upon reboot, the controller never successfully boots back up.  I just keep seeing the following message form the console:

"waiting for uplink IP address and reachable default gateway"

I can see that the AP is pulling a DHCP address just fine, just like it did upon first setup.  I have tested this using an access port on the management VLAN and the controller will start up just fine, but that does me little good.  Any ideas what I need to do to get teh controller to boot up properly while connected to a trunk port?  Thanks!

When you boot up a Mobility Express AP, it takes around 5-8 minutes before it boots up to a controller.

I had similar issue, do i need to console in to make changes to the DHCP. How do i get back into the box or UI to make changes?

You need to console into the AP to see if the unit has obtained a DHCP address. You could always factory default the AP if you want to be able to UI using the day 0 setup.

Hi everyone,

Does someone knows if the AP 1852I works as standalone without connecting to wired network? I´m going to setup a Site Survey and I need to use the 1852I as Autonomous AP but I didn´t find in the Cisco Software Center any version to be used as autonomous only LWAP and Mobility Express.

Thanks for your comments.

Neyton

There is no Autonomous Code for 1852I.Your only option is to use Mobility express.

Ali,

Hi Scott,

Could you help me with the similar problem.

I just bought a AIR-AP1832I-H-K9.

It is a thin AP by default.

I try to change it to MOBILITY EXPRESS how ever, I can't due to some reason.

I plugged in the console and use PuTTY to check and found a message keep showing on the screen.

"waiting for uplink IP address and reachable default gateway"

The following is the output of my console and show version.

I reolved my issue once i managed to console into the ME AP. The issue was i have plugged into a lightweight environment and had changed it into lightweight AP. It went into the CAPWAP discovery process. Once i updated the firmware back to ME, it all works and start broadcasting CiscoAirProvision SSID.

I still have another unit that won't boot up when i plug into the same PoE switch, but when i plug into AC power adapter it works. Could be hardware issue.

You shouldn't bring up a ME AP when there is a WLC or IOS-XE MC on the network. Any mobility express AP should be on a network where there is no controller and or remove any option 43, DNS or layer 2 broadcast capabilities.

Agree. I plugged it in because i was testing the power issue on the first one that i mentioned. Conveniently i took the second unit and test out the PoE. After that i try to bring up the second unit as ME, and that is where i faced the bootup issue. Anyway, thanks Scott and everyone. I am happy with the performance so far.

Glad to help.
