Hi,

I would like to know the purpose of and differences between the following two Software types for the Cisco 1560 Series Outdoor Access Points. Also, can both be used for Bridging between remote LANs?

  1. Cisco 1560 Series Unified Mesh Mode Software
  2. Cisco 1560 Series Unified Local Mode Software

Cisco 1560 Series Unified Mesh Mode Software - your AP will be shiped with mesh image, you can use this to create and manage mesh network through controller. Mesh can be used to bridge between remote LANs.

Cisco 1560 Series Unified Local Mode Software -  Think of it as lightweight, 1560 do not support autonomous. Sometimes "Unified" word creates a confusion that you can switch between lightweight and autonomous with a command, but not in case of 1560.

So if you want to create a bridge, you should order Mesh mode software and create a RAP to MAP link.

there is one more option which is Mobility express, part # SWAP1560-MBEXP-K9, you can use this to make AP function as a controller with limited functionality for a small deployment.
