Cisco LAP1242: DOT11-4-DTXPOISON: owner of pak is gone

From time to time our HREAP-WLAN-APs are no longer able to accept client connections.

We have to reset them to get rid of the problem, which creates the followoing Log-entries in the WLAN-AP:

*Jan 23 05:56:30.387: %DOT11-4-DTXPOISON: DTX marked with poison since the owner of the pak is gone

*Jan 23 05:56:30.464: %DOT11-4-DTXPOISON: DTX marked with poison since the owner of the pak is gone

*Jan 23 05:56:30.545: %DOT11-4-DTXPOISON: DTX marked with poison since the owner of the pak is gone

*Jan 23 05:56:30.566: %DOT11-4-DTXPOISON: DTX marked with poison since the owner of the pak is gone

*Jan 23 05:56:30.586: %DOT11-4-DTXPOISON: DTX marked with poison since the owner of the pak is gone

*Jan 23 05:56:30.707: %DOT11-4-DTXPOISON: DTX marked with poison since the owner of the pak is gone

The model is LAP1242AG-E-K9 configured as HREAP and running 12.4(21a)JHC-image.

Thank You in advance

I have never seen that and that message doesn't show up in the error message decoder.  Your best bet if no one here knows of this error is to open a Tac case.

What version if code are you running? When it locks up can you pull a show controllers dot11radio 0|1? I'd also try ti do a debug client < Mac address> when this happens as well?

Hello Stephen and Scott, thank You for Your answers.

The Cisco LAP1242 are running IOS 12.4(21a)JHC.

They are configured in HREAP-mode and connected to remotely located WLCs.

The connection to the primary WLC fails also very often, but we have no explanation why.

The WLAN clients are Barcode-Scanner within the 802.11b/g-band that use AES and PSK.

You should link your other post to this post or else it will get confusing for everyone.

Thanks,

Scott Fella

This is causing the AP to reboot radio 0, this is a serious matter... any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cisco... Anyone... any idea what this is?   I have 12 APs that are showing this error and it causes the Radio interface to reset.  Problem is that sometimes the AP Radio Interface gets "stuck" and doesn't come back after the reset.

Please help!!

FYI, We're facing the exact same problem here as well. WLC code version: 8.5.151. As of now, only seen on the 3702i Access Points.

In our case, clients either, take a ridiculously long time to associate, associate but unable to forward traffic (EAP authentication wasn't able to start; stuck at EAPOL Start stage as per packet capture), or associate and able to forward traffic, then dropout out of nowhere. This was all observed 5m line of sight of the Access Point in free space, so coverage isn't an issue here.

DTXPOISON seen in AP logs, radios resetting themselves frequently for no reason.... unable to monitor it from central syslog servers as this is not considered as 'Error' level. TAC has been engaged.

This is bug CSCvq81388 and only 2700 / 3700 hitting this problem . Please open a TAC case !

There is no fix YET !!! for 8.5.151.x train!

Just to inform... issue is impacting AIR-AP1572EAC-A-K9 too..

Code: 8.5.151.5

TAC only says that Cisco developers are working on it and i have to wait until november 2019 :(

An AP reload works for a while...
