Cisco PoE+ AP with Antenna Power Requirements

Hey everyone,

Question: Does an antenna require more power to the AP via PoE+?

Ultimate Question: I know that PoE+ will power the IW-6300 AP, but will PoE+ power the IW-6300 AP with the Air-ANT2566P4W-R Antenna?

Below is our current design.

">" means connected to

Cisco IE-3200 switch > IW-6300 AP > Air-ANT2566P4W-R Antenna

The Cisco IE-3200 supports PoE+

        - Estimated PoE+ output to the Powered device would be approx 25W

The IW-6300 has a PoE+ / UPOE auto sense inbound port

       - I can't find baseline power needed to run this AP. Looked through the datasheet

The Air-ANT2566P4W-R Antenna

       - I don't see in the datasheet anything about power required.

I know that PoE+ will power the IW-6300 AP, but will PoE+ power the IW-6300 AP with the Air-ANT2566P4W-R Antenna?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Cisco PoE+ AP with Antenna Power Requirements

yes, The listed AP power requirement including what power needs for those radio chains. The antenna itself does not require active power

Re: Cisco PoE+ AP with Antenna Power Requirements

It requires a specific power injector, if you need to power it via PoE. Refer page 40 of below document

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/outdoor_industrial/iw6300/hardware/install/guide/b_iw6300_hig.pdf

---

The access point can be powered by one of these methods:
Power over Ethernet by power injector AIR-PWRINJ-60RGD1= and AIR-PWRINJ-60RGD2=
• AC or DC power
• IW-6300H-AC-x-K9: 85-264V~ maximum, marked 100-240V~, 50-60Hz, 1.3A
• IW-6300H-DC-x–K9: 44 to 57Vdc, 1.2A
• IW-6300H-DCW-x-K9: 10.8 to 36Vdc, 5.9A

Oh okay, so the injector increases the power to the AP to 60W? Is that correct?

Re: Cisco PoE+ AP with Antenna Power Requirements

Yes, that is correct. It provides 60W to AP

So this should be plenty of power to supply the AP and its antenna right?

Sorry for my ignorance....Is this what that installation would like that or are there other ways to install?

Re: Cisco PoE+ AP with Antenna Power Requirements

That's correct. AP powered from injector which is sit in between switch & AP

Forgive me if this is in the installation guide, but what the maximum cable lengths for the Ethernet cable between the switch to power adapter and the power adapter to AP?

Re: Cisco PoE+ AP with Antenna Power Requirements

With Ethernet it is 100m max. You should not go for that max limit (typically end to end 80-90m including patch leads if you want to stretch it)
