Not mandatory.  It's recommended.  If you can't, then it's OK.

can we connect it to a fasternet port (100 mbps) ?

Sure.  Why not?

Thanks for the prompt reply!!!

But actually at one of our sites we are connecting Cisco 2504 to a Cisco 3750 switch to a fasternet port.

and we can ping the switch from the wlc but we are not able to ping the wlc from the switch.

the link led is green.

what do you think could be issue.

thanks in advance

You can ping the default gateway from the wlc, correct?  Can you ping the gateway from the switch?

Hi Scott,

I was able to get the network up by uplinking the Cisco 2504 wlc to a fastethernet port.

Actually i was not able to ping the gateway the WLC which was at the swich (layer 3).

the problem which i found was that at the switch native Vlan was 910 (untagged) and i had tagged the management interface of the wlc with 910.

So i just tagged the management interface of the wlc with 0. and thing start working flawlessly.

Though things are fine and good.

but can we have more light on what was wrong and why.

Thanks
