default multicast behaviour

Hi everyone,

How does the WLC handle multicast traffic (HSRP,STP etc) originated in the WLAN subnets?

Do we need to specify ACLs  on  filter them or are they  blocked by default?

If ACLs required, is it best to apply on SVIs or on the  WLC itself ?

please advice.

Thanks,

Silva

Any multicast and broadcast traffic is blocked at the wlc by default unless you are allowing multicast traffic or if you you are forwarding broadcast traffic. The traffic you mentioned are blocked by the wlc.

Hi,

The WLC by default has multicast traffic option disable, so if you need to work with multicast you will need to enable multicast on the WLC if the access points are on the same subnet as the WLC, if the access points are on a different subnet then the WLC you will need to also enable layer 3 multicast on your switches or routers.
